Additions and Remodels
Additions and Remodels are greatly enjoyed here at Scott W Bartholomew Architecture and are a great way to update your home. Not only are we able to make a building new with an adaptive reuse which extends a building life, but we also treat these as a great way to learn. While investigating the pre-existing conditions of a project where a built structure is present one can learn how others have done things in the past. Some are good, some not so much, but each is a case study in itself. I often find myself getting quite excited thinking about the history, techniques and intents present in these pre-existing conditions.
During the programing phase of additional and remodel projects there are investigations into the past which offer incites which are not readily found elsewhere. Good and Bad installations can be analyzed for future reference. It always a joy to begin from scratch with a site and a blank piece of paper when designing but I find as much joy (maybe more) in taking an older outdated structure along with a clients program to adapt a structure to a better solution.
